Well, I have to report that thus far, meeting chicks online is the way to go. Katr, as we all know, turned out to be a winner. And last weekend, Katr and I met Lex, a lass of many talents and accomplishments, including being a contributor and the editor of my new favourite book, cheapeats toronto 2006. Holy crap, am I loving this book. Read it - eat it - live it. Then eat it some more.
There's always a little anxiety around meeting people you only know online, because, ha ha, what if they're JERKS? Fortunately for all three of us, the "jerk-o-metre" remained at "low" throughout what turned out to be a delightful, nearly 5 hour brunch. You know you're having a good time with someone when the disgusting man horking rich loogies and drinking beer out of a paper cup on the next bench over is only mildly distracting.
We held forth a variety of pressing issues, not the least of which being that Lex is trying to choose a new name for her personal blog. I see that she has put up a poll to choose her new title, so if you're in a meddlin' mood, head over and have your say! I think I voted for "unsweetened.ca", but "TheLittlestAardvark.com" just caught my eye ("the aardvark" is what my brother and I used to call my mother's '80's fur coat. HOT.) Can I change my vote? Probably best not to, 'cause I'd be there all day. There are some great ideas on the list, which made it very difficult to choose just one. Fortunately, Lex is not currently conducting the following poll: Which is hotter - my hair or my rack? They're both pretty spell-binding. Also, she's smart and funny. Also, great hair. Also, great rack.
In less rack-related news, Katr and I are sad to announce the passing of our DVD player. It went into the light last week and all attempts to revive it have failed. This is sad because it was a magical, region-free DVD player, which meant that I could watch the Brides of Christ DVDs Katr got me from Australia on it. No more Brides of Christ for Creampuff. While trying to decide on where and when to get a new DVD player, however, Katr and I have returned to my first love: videotapes.
My videotape collection, like my ass, is prodigious. They are mostly commercial tapes, but I do still have a few "off the tv" ones, namely Eco-Challenges Borneo and New Zealand, because those fuckers haven't put it out on DVD. When Katr and I first shacked up, she had only a DVD player and didn't understand why I was insisting we also get a VCR - until she saw my boxes and boxes of tapes. I had been wondering lately if I should just get rid of my videos; they take up a lot of closet space and we rarely watch them. And then our DVD player died and I knew I'd been right to keep them all this time. Vindicated!
When our friend Padu came over for the weekly chicken and we told him that we'd have to choose a tape, he clapped his hands with glee and said "Oooo! Something from the archives!". Within minutes, he had it narrowed down to four films, films which I feel really represent both the depth and breadth of my collection: Postcards From the Edge, A Cry in the Dark ("A dingo ate my baby!"), Run Lola Run, and Office Space. Because I know you'll want to know, we ended up watching Postcards From the Edge, and it was awesome. AWESOME, people.
Anyway - what was my point? It was something about how this week was about appreciating not simple things, but simpler things. Things like eating cheaply - old school video cassettes - and cleavage. Have an excellent weekend.
